Committee Reports
Architectural Committee
Chair, Larry Stecker,
In addition to the chair, the Architectural Committee has four other members and one alternate. I want to thank all of the committee members for their hard work and thoughtfulness in working for our community.
We have all been working to setup our annual inspection of the community, and consolidating our Rules and Regulations so that we have one accurate document to work from, we will be publishing that document in July, on the website and have copies available in the office.
At present the committee plans to make the inspections in June, July and September of 2011 with the entire community divided between the three dates.
An additional responsibility includes investigating formal complaints filed with the office through a signed written complaint filed in person or through a form available on the website.
Permit Reminder …
In addition to being charged with the enforcement of all Covenants, Bylaws, Rules & Regulations of the Shorecrest Beach Club, the Architectural Committee is also responsible for the issuance of permits for new construction, modifications to structures, fences, septic systems, and other related activities as defined in the rules & regulations. The Shorecrest permit is in addition to any needed County permits. If you don't know if you need a permit, contact the office or come to a committee meeting.
Bylaws Committee
The Bylaws committee submitted a draft rewrite to the board for their review.
ICE: Set up a contact in your cell phone as ICE, which stands for In Case of Emergency. Then enter the phone number of who you’d want contacted in an emergency. First responders will look for this! |
Shorecrest Area Neighborhood Watch (SANW)
The “Block Watch” has restarted with a hearty turnout of folks. The group not only focuses on Shorecrest, but also on the outlying areas such as Leeds Rd and Crestview (to Agate Loop.) Those areas have representatives attending meetings and holding office.
The group works closely with Timberlakes and Harstine Island and their respective Block Watches. The co-chairs attend monthly meetings with Sheriff Casey Salisbury where much useful information about crime prevention is disseminated.
The group is expanding its scope to include disaster preparedness in the form of CERT (community emergency response training). This will include having a central place in Shorecrest for food and water supplies, the organized use of private boats to help transport folks to “town” in case our roads are out, ham radio operation, a first aid station, etc.
SANW meets from 10:00-11:00 AM on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at the clubhouse. Most of the communication is done by email, so attendance is encouraged, but not required. If you would like to be on the mailing list, or you have questions, please send an email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Financial News
By Jeanette Lewis, Treasurer
The outside auditor recently completed his draft for the 2009/10 Audit. You can request copies in the Office.
The biggest problem is an adjustment for bad debt. These are old dues that have not yet been paid. It is incorrect to include them as Revenue in the Profit & Loss statement and a Receivable (Asset) on the Balance Sheet if the probability of collecting them is low.
Expensing Bad Debt does not mean we can’t continue to try to collect overdue dues, just that we should not include them in the P&L and as an Asset for financial reporting purposes.
Since Shorecrest included all dues in Revenue as they were billed the past couple of years, the bad debt write off adjustment by the Auditor resulted in a huge net loss for the 2009/10 fiscal year – ($42,664).
Regardless of the reason for the net loss, this is unacceptable financial management and the current board is committed to turning this around.
